Quote-White
"Well, she's desperate for these killings to have some supernatural meaning, but he didn't murder seven people because there's whispering in his house."
―Kristen about Orson and Emily LeRoux[src]

Kristen Bouchard is the main protagonist of the TV series Evil. She is portrayed by actress Katja Herbers.

Kristen is a forensic psychologist who joins forces with David Acosta and Ben Shakir to investigate unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and other extraordinary occurrences.

Personality[]

Kristen has successfully split her personality between her work and home life. While working she is professional, logical and at times, seemingly lacking a sense of humor; Kristen also finds it hard to admit when she's wrong or fully accept other people's points of view due to her scientific background. She likes things to be her way.

When at home with her husband and four daughters she is much more relaxed and caring, demonstrating calmness in the face of her daughters' habit of talking over each other and screaming and providing gentle but firm redirection. She is shown to frequently use a mixture of humor, redirection, and firmness to set boundaries and rules with her daughters. This is demonstrated when they try to convince her to let them stay up to watch a scary movie by saying not finishing it will lead to nightmares, to which she jokingly responds, "That's exactly how that works. Let's go [upstairs to bed]." She is rarely shown to be reactive or angry with the girls while holding firm to boundaries she has set. She is also very protective of her family, especially her children.

Her relationship with her husband, Andy, is sometimes strained. This is because his business as a mountain climber and guide on Mt. Everest means that he is often away from home. She loves her husband, but the frequent and prolonged physical separation makes it difficult for them to maintain their relationship.

Appearance[]

She's a thin woman of average height in her thirties. Kristen is always seen in professional attire with short, dark hair and minimal make-up. She often wears turtleneck tops.

Occupation[]

Like Leland Townsend, Kristen is a forensic psychologist and performs many of the same duties. She interviews criminals for the District Attorney’s office to assess whether they are fit to stand trial and can appear as a expert witness when needed.

Kristen used to be a mountain climber, and jointly runs a business with her husband where they guide people to the summit of Mt Everest. She is not active in this business, even when given the option.

Character Biography[]

Kristen was originally an avid climber who managed to summit multiple peaks alongside Andy. However, she gave it up to have and raise their four daughters.

As an independent contractor for the DA's office, Kristen is brought in to assess a former patient, Orson LeRoux, who claimed to have blacked out when he murdered at least three families with a knife. Her assessment is that he is likely lying and feels undermined and angry when on the stand she learns LeRoux has claimed to be possessed by a demon - something which is formally diagnosed by Dr. Leland Townsend. She accuses Ben and David of coaching LeRoux. She ignores David's attempt to help and goes to verify LeRoux isn't possessed. However, when curiosity gets the better of her, she recites the Lord's Prayer which gets a violent reaction from LeRoux and he attacks her, but the attack is thwarted by guards. She tries to buy more time to assess LeRoux during his trial but DA Lewis Cormier tells her that she has to confirm her earlier diagnosis on the stand or they would 're-evaluate' her working for the DA's office. Angry, Kristen storms up to the prosecution lawyer and publicly refuses to lie on the stand while the judge watches on.

After her daughter's birthday party, David comes to Kristen's home - which is also her work address - and offers her a job working with him and Ben to assess supernatural for the Church. Though Kristen is skeptical, she agrees to the job as she is desperate for the money.

As the first task of her new job, Kristen interviews LeRoux's wife, Emily LeRoux, where she remains unconvinced by the odd occurrences she's told about.

That night, she is terrorized by an incubus who calls himself George, but tries to tell herself it is just a dream. But George responds 'your eyes are open, it's a weird way to dream...' Though her daughters' attempt to comfort her and end up sleeping in bed with her, the encounter sticks with Kristen and prompts her to visit Kurt Boggs - her therapist - to discuss possible causes and why night terrors would start so late on; he prescribes her Diazepam. Unfortunatly for Kristen, these night terrors persist and George visits her multiple times, in one instance he cuts her fingers off every time she give a perceived wrong answer to the test she'd previously given to Orson LeRoux.

When LeRoux mentions her dreams to Kristen and David while pretending to be a demon named Roy, she theorizes that Dr. Boggs told somebody who leaked the information to LeRoux. She soon learns that his notes had been stolen, so she goes through the prison sign-in book and determines it must have been 'L. Townsend'. With David's help, she eventually discovers that Leland had encouraged LeRoux's murder spree and that they had connected through 4Chan.

Relationships[]

Andy Bouchard (Husband)[]

Kristen and Andy Bouchard have been married for many years and have four daughters together: Lynn, Lila, Lexis and Laura. While still very much in love their relationship has been tested by Andy constantly being away working as a guide leading explorers up Mount Everest.

Upon his return, Andy becomes suspicious of Kristen's relationship with Ben Shakir and David Acosta, especially the former since their daughters refer to Ben as 'Ben the Magnificent'. He suspects that Kristen may have been unfaithful to him while he was away. However, despite his suspicions, they remain just that, and Andy blames himself more than Kristen since it is he who has been away so long.

Her Daughters[]

Despite having a full time job and Andy often being away for long periods of time, Kristen always makes time for her four daughters - Lynn, Lila, Lexis and Laura - as best she can. She truly loves her children and is fiercely protective of them and occasionally lets them sleep in bed with her. Kristen puts on a brave face no matter what is bothering her to ensure her daughters have the happiest upbringing they can and will stop at nothing if it means keeping them safe. The best examples of this being when she slits Leland Townsend's throat to get him out of her house and her anger towards the debt collector that called the house and told her daughters they'd 'be homeless' if Kristen didn't soon repay her loan.

Sheryl Luria (Mother)[]

Kristen has always had a strong relationship with her mother and the pair are very close. Sheryl Luria is one of the few people she trusts her daughters with and will often ask her to watch them while she is at work.

Despite their strong connection, however, the introduction of Leland as Sheryl's boyfriend -- and later fiancé -- puts a strain on their relationship. Eventually Kristen starts to notice a change in her mother which she doesn't like and gives her an ultimatum: Kristen and the girls or Leland. Much to Kristen's shock Sheryl chooses Leland.

David Acosta[]

After agreeing to work with David and Ben, Kristen forms a quick friendship with both men, but her relationship with David Acosta is certainly the stronger of the two. The pair easily formed an attachment to one another that could easily turn romantic if it weren't for Kristen's husband and David's desire to become a priest. He is one of few people she'll joke with in a professional setting and is most open to religious opinions when they come from him. Kristen will also often confide in David, revealing some of her darkest secrets in hopes of finding absolution and to alleviate her guilt.

Ben Shakir[]

Kristen has a strong friendship with Ben Shakir, the fellow skeptic on her team. She trusts Ben with things she doesn't feel comfortable talking about with David, including home security issues, problems with her family, and issues with David. However their relationship has grown somewhat strained after the murder of Orson LeRoux, as Ben is the only one who suspects it was her.

Leland Townsend[]

Leland is Kristen's nemesis. She's fully aware of his evil nature and how much he wants to destroy her, David, Ben, and their friends and families. Though originally threatened and cautious about him, Kristen has come to sideline Leland after she learns his real name and background. She used this information to ridicule him in an attempt to turn the tables on him with worked to some extent.

George[]

George is an incubus who harasses Kristen in her dreams. Originally, she was terrified of George, however, after she discovers that her daughters have also seen George, she searches for logical causes as she doesn't believe him to be real. Kristen learns that her daughters had been watching a horror show and suspects that the image of George is taken from that show. She tests to see if George is really a dream and finds she can't read anything so she has to be asleep. Using this as a weapon, she grounds herself and isn't afraid of George after that. She ignores him, much to George's confusion and irritation.

In the episode "Book 27," Kristen stabs George in the back with a pair of scissors and seemingly kills him.

Trivia[]

  • She was the first woman to climb The Nose of El Capitan in one day.[1]
